Writing to Amsterdam Arranged from abroad
Nothing here happens by voice. A booking planned from another country lives in a written thread, where the date, the hour and the figure can be read again a fortnight later, on the train in from the airport, without anyone having to remember a call.
Distance is the reason. An evening fixed three weeks ahead passes through a lot of travel before it arrives: a flight, a time change, a check-in, perhaps a stop somewhere else on the way. A spoken arrangement rarely survives all of that intact. A written one does, because both sides can scroll back to it.
A first message is quick to answer when it holds these five lines:
- The date in Amsterdam, with the weekday written beside it.
- The hour in Amsterdam time, and once more in your own time if the gap is large.
- How long: sixty minutes, ninety, two hours, three, or eight for the overnight.
- A name from the profiles, or a note that you have not chosen yet.
- The hotel, if it is booked, and whether there will be two of you in the room.
The reply comes back in the same thread with who is free that evening, the figure and the deposit. Nothing is asked of you before it: no account, no form, and no payment until a booking has been agreed.
Questions before booking
Plenty of first messages ask rather than book. How far ahead is sensible, what happens if the flight changes, whether a particular hotel at Schiphol is inside the arrangement. What the thread will not do
It will not reserve or change a hotel room, will not contact a hotel for you, and cannot tell you what a particular building allows its guests. It deals with therapists, dates, hours, lengths and payment.
